Overview
Standing on a volcano as the sun comes up over the clouds is something guests talk about for years afterwards. The climb is around two hours on a well-worn path — no technical skill needed, just a steady pace and a warm layer. At the top we have breakfast cooked in volcanic steam, then descend and soothe your legs in a natural hot spring by the lake.
A very early start — bring a light jacket, it is cold at the summit.
We start with head torches and climb steadily with your trekking guide.
Sunrise over the clouds, Lake Batur below and Mount Agung on the horizon.
Eggs and bananas steamed in the volcano's own heat — a small ritual up there.
Soak beside Lake Batur and let your legs recover.
Back by early afternoon with the rest of the day to rest.
